He signed for the rams On 4 August 2006. Matt signed a 3 year contract after joint the rams On a free transfer. Matt Oakley was immediately named team captain . Matt only spent 2 years with the rams where he helped them get in to the premiership . He played for Derby County 56 times and he scored 9 goals For the rams
He made his debut in a 2–0 defeat to Stoke City on 8 August 2006.
On the 11th of January 2008 Derby County sold Matt Oakley to Leicester City in the January transfer window for a fee of £500,000, . Matt Oakley then signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with Leicester.
Matt Oakley made his league debut for Leicesteri on the 12th of January 2008 , where his team beatiCoventry City 2–0 at the Walkers Stadium..
He was loving his time their and had a great butt short partnership with Stephen Clemence in central midfield . Matt Oakley's arrival could not prevent the club's season from ending in relegation.
He played 137 games for Leicester City and scored 10 goals for them .
In the 2010/2011 season. Matt Oakley played his 500th competitive match in a 2–0 defeat to Millwall on 28 December 2010. He signed a new contract with the club on 24 March 2011, which would last until June 2012..
The following day, Oakley relinquished his position as captain and handed over the role to teammate Andy King. He finally scored his first league goal since April 2009 in a 1–1 draw against Crystal Palace on 12 April 2011, followed by another on 22 April in a 3–2 defeat to Nottingham Forest. Matt Oakley played a total of 36 competitive games, as Leicester finished the season in 10th position.
On 20 March 2012, Oakley agreed by mutal consent to have his contract ended.
After being released by Leicester . Matt Oakley spent the 2012 pre-season training with Exeter City and after much speculation it was announced on 31 July 2012 that he had signed a permanent deal with the Grecians.
So with all that said where is Matt Oakley now ? Well ram fans Matt Oakley played his last Game for Exeter City in 2017 where he spent 5 years at the club .
He is now retire from football
