Monk has reportedly switched his efforts to Derby right-back Cyrus Christie as an alternative to Gunter, and after talks progressed quickly, the deal is now reportedly nearing completion.
The Rams snapped up Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom earlier in the week after a drawn-out transfer saga and are now willing to let the 24-year-old Republic of Ireland international leave the club on a permanent basis.
Both Reading and QPR were interested in bringing in the former Coventry defender earlier in the window, but their interest has cooled in recent weeks and Boro are now expected to complete the signing of Christie as a replacement for Spain-bound defender Antonio Barragan.

The fee what is going around for QPR and reading was £1.5m I think it was around that Fee . I don't think he will stop at the rams much longer just because of the 2 new guys who have come in ..
He also don't get the best feedback from the ram fans and after he sent out that silly tweet about th fans he will always get hate from them .

Can we afford to lose one of the best fullbacks in the League?
I think he got a bad deal with the feedback - he didn't say that he was THE best, just one of the best. I think I'd agree with him going forward, but probably not defensively. He might be better playing in front of the fullback. If he worked on his crossing, he might have been considered as a contender to replace Ince, or be able to cover there in emergency. Same at fullback.
Not such a bad player as he's made out to be.
If three clubs are arguing over him, I would have hoped that the price would rise a bit.

Derby county have got to cut the numbers that is just facts . He is a good side player and he can get the ball up to the front men but I still feel he is missing somthing when it comes to his defending side of the game ..
